Rachel Lyons is the newest addition to the wellness team at Virginia Women’s Center. She joined Virginia Women’s Center in August 2008 to help women achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle through nutrition. She sees patients at the Virginia Women's Center office located at Memorial Regional Medical Center.
Rachel is dedicated to women’s health throughout the lifespan. She is experienced in all areas of nutrition and has a particular interest in counseling women with heart disease, helping women with weight loss, and working with pregnant patients—whether helping them make healthy choices or teaching them how to treat gestational diabetes. Rachel is a member of the American Dietetic Association and its affiliated women’s health dietetic practice group.
Rachel graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in human nutrition, food and exercise. While at Virginia Tech, she counseled students and faculty on their nutritional needs.
Upon graduation, Rachel attended the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, Virginia to complete her 10-month supervised practice program. While at UVA, she provided medical nutrition therapy to patients, developed patient education materials and gave nutrition presentations to the community. She also worked with a team of nurses on a research project that focused on the educational needs of women with both diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
In her spare time, Rachel enjoys hiking, camping, biking and going to the beach with her husband. She is committed to her own well-being and is currently training for the Rock N Roll half marathon.
