Elizabeth Compton is a board-certified women's health nurse practitioner. She earned a Bachelor's of Science and Master's of Science in nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has worked in the Richmond area as a nurse practitioner, providing obstetrical and gynecological services to women. She also has general surgery and psychiatric nursing experience, and she worked as a labor and delivery nurse for many years.
Elizabeth is skilled in all aspects of women’s health with a focus on patient education. She likes helping adolescent girls better understand and care for their changing bodies. Likewise, menopause education is another area of interest. She is skilled in annual and problem-focused gynecologic exams.
As a mother and a former labor & delivery nurse of many years, Elizabeth understands birth and motherhood, through professional and personal experience. She has a special passion for obstetrics work and caring for mothers-to-be—from before they conceive to the time they give birth. Though not a lactation consultant, she has also helped many women with breastfeeding. Elizabeth is a member of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrical and Neonatal Nursing. She joined Virginia Women’s Center in 2006.
Elizabeth’s roles as mother and nurse don’t leave time for many extracurricular pursuits. She is dedicated to staying active with her children. As her daughters have gotten older, Elizabeth has returned to her hobbies of scrapbooking, photography, and reading. In the meantime, out-of-town travel or taking in a movie with her husband are rare but appreciated treats.
