For his academic achievement and performance in the obstetrics and gynecology field, Dr. Thompson has received several honors and awards. He is the co-author of four publications and numerous abstracts in the areas of bacteriology, immunology and virology. More recently Dr. Thompson’s gynecology practice has expanded immeasurably with work in the field of pelvic organ prolapse. Prolapse is an uncomfortable condition that can affect women following pregnancy or hysterectomy, but one that’s easily treatable with proper experience and knowledge. About one in three women suffer from some degree of prolapse and one in 10 women will undergo surgery for it. In collaboration with Virginia Women’s Center urologist Lonny Green, M.D., Dr. Thompson has helped hundreds of women.
Dr. Thompson is as serious about his family as he is about his work and appreciates time to spend with his wife and two children. They enjoy outdoor activities, including hiking, camping and fishing. Dr. Thompson is also an avid golfer. And, he has a unique hobby: beer crafting.
