Virginia Women’s Center (VWC) created this Privacy Statement to demonstrate our commitment to the privacy of our patients and others who use this site. This statement describes how information about you may be used and disclosed and how you can get access to this information. Please review this statement carefully. Information Collection and Use Collection, retention, and use of personal information may occur if VWC patient and non-patient users interact with VWC’s Web site, by either registering with the site or participating in one of VWC’s services, when these features are available. Member users may be required to provide their name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and/or other identifying information. This information is used to verify status with the VWC patient database and to respond to inquiries and/or requests. Non-member users may be required to provide an e-mail address, in order for VWC to respond to inquiries and/or requests. VWC may use e-mail addresses provided by patient users to notify them of upcoming events from VWC, when these features are available. Patient users who do not wish to receive such e-mails should not opt-in when registering with VWC’s Web site. Patient users are able to opt-out or change their preferences for receiving such information at any time. Use of Cookies and IP Address Cookies are small pieces of information stored by your browser on your computer, which are used to aid in web navigation. VWC’s Web site may now or in the future use session cookies. When patient users log onto VWC’S Web site, an identifier is temporarily created and placed in their computer's memory so the patient user can access the patients-only pages, when it becomes available, using their e-mail address and password. The cookie contains no personal information and is self-terminated upon exiting the browser. A unique number called an IP address identifies each computer on the Internet. Each time users connect to the Internet, their computer is assigned an IP address. When member and non-member users connect to VWC’s Web site, the IP address is stored for statistical purposes. Public Forums VWC’s Web site may make public forums and discussion boards available to patient users. Please remember that any information disclosed in these areas becomes public information and patient users should exercise caution when deciding to disclose personal information. VWC cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information transmitted in the public forums. External Links VWC’s Web site contains links to other external Web sites that do not fall under its domain. VWC is not responsible for the privacy practices and the content of such external Web sites. Third Party VWC may disclose your personal information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to 1) conform to legal requirements or comply with legal process served on VWC, 2) protect and defend the rights of property of VWC, or 3) protect the personal safety of VWC personnel or members of the public in urgent circumstances.
